Duke Energy is threatening your right to vote
The largest utility in the country, Duke Energy, is a major backer of ALEC — the right-wing policy group promoting voter suppressions laws to keep YOU and millions of others from voting. These outrageous laws are a direct attack on our democracy and our right to vote.
Next week, the Democratic National Convention is being hosted in Duke Energy’s hometown of Charlotte, NC. With thousands of elected officials and the media in Charlotte, we can blow the lid off Duke’s dirty antics, and demand they stop funding ALEC and voter suppression.
Companies like Duke can only get away with this behavior when it’s hidden from the public. That’s why today we’re launching a campaign with a coalition of environmental and civil rights organizations to publicly call on Duke to leave ALEC — and then next week we’re bringing our demands directly to Duke’s home turf in Charlotte.
Public pressure and the negative publicity that goes with it has already proven to be effective in getting major corporations to leave ALEC. If we can get Duke Energy to dump ALEC as well, we can break a link in the web of dirty money, and erode the ability of ALEC and the big polluters to hold us back.
Join us in calling on Duke Energy to stop funding ALEC and voter suppression:
This fall’s Power Vote campaign is about using the power of the youth vote to confront the big polluters and the 1%. As thousands of people and the media gather in Charlotte, NC next week, let’s make sure they know loud and clear and that young people across the country are standing up to big polluters — starting by standing up to Duke Energy and demanding they stop funding ALEC and voter suppression.
