On Sunday, December 4, the water protectors at Standing Rock and their allies achieved a historic victory: the Army Corps of Engineers just denied the final permit for the Dakota Access Pipeline to drill under the Missouri River.

It shouldn’t have taken months. It shouldn’t have taken the sacrifices it did. It shouldn’t be something we have to fight for at all. But fight we did—and against odds that cynics said we could never overcome, we’re claiming this victory.

Last night, Americans faced a hard truth: racism, sexism, xenophobia, bigotry, hatred and fear are still very much alive and well in our country. Those darkest, ugliest impulses celebrated an enormous victory last night.

But I’m writing to make a commitment to you, and to everyone I love, that we will not let this kill our spirit.

On October 12th , 2016, the Kentucky Student Environmental Coalition (KSEC) hosted its first annual Local Food Day of Action.

Universities across the state celebrated the day with events and activities to raise awareness for the importance of local food and to promote local food on campuses.

We have taken upon ourselves the burden of inspiring change for an environmentally just and sustainable future in a place where most of our political leaders couldn’t care less. KSEC is demanding change and fostering a network of youth from around the state to be engaged in Kentucky’s politics.

Enbridge Energy Inc., a Canadian mega-corporation, recently purchased a 28% share in the pipeline from Energy Transfer Partners, making them the largest single financial contributor to the project’s bottom line.
