About the Power Shift Network

Young climate justice activists march in Philadelphia at Power Shift 2016 Northeast

Our Mission

The Power Shift Network mobilizes the collective power of young people to mitigate climate change and create a just, clean energy future and resilient, thriving communities for all.

Our Vision

Through the collective power of young people, the Power Shift Network is working for a safe climate and just future where communities are thriving and own their power—whether that power is electrical, economic, social, or political.

What is the Power Shift Network?

Young people face a broken political system, racism, inequality, student debt, and the climate crisis. At the same time, we are building a strong, intersectional, bottom-up movement to halt climate change, shift the power and change the system.

We resolve to stand together in mutual support and solidarity to build a clean, just and thriving future for our country. We are not afraid to speak truth to power, to sacrifice and to demonstrate our commitment to changes that seemed impossible to previous generations. We are the most diverse generation in history, united with one voice, demanding justice for all.

We come together as a network, despite many differences, because we know that our vision will only be realized by working together. Indeed, our diversity makes us strong. To scale our power and make the change we need, we must respect, engage and elevate all perspectives, especially those who have been systematically shut out of economic and political decision-making.

To achieve these goals, the Power Shift Network is bringing together leaders — from the smallest campus groups to the largest national organizations — to fight for climate, clean energy, and social justice. Together, we will mobilize the collective power of young people to mitigate climate change and create a just, clean energy future and resilient, thriving communities for all.

Our Network

Members of the Power Shift Network work on an incredible diversity of issues and campaigns—from fighting toxic tar sands pipelines to building locally-owned renewable energy projects to supporting young people of color to run for office—and they range from small student groups to big national nonprofits and everything in between. Member organizations gain access to a variety of resources to help you organize more powerfully and effectively, like small financial grants, coaching and training support, and the ability to make connections with activists and organizers across the country. A New Chapter

The Power Shift Network was formerly known as Energy Action Coalition. We officially re-launched as the Power Shift Network 2016. The shift was more than just a rebranding—it was a major transition in how we organize.  Click here to read a blog post from Lydia Avila, our Executive Director, about why we made this change.
