Mikayla Biggers

Network Support Team Member

Mikayla Biggers (Pronouns: She/Her) is an organizer on Dakota Land in Minneapolis, MN. Born, raised, and living in the Midwest, Mikayla feels a strong connection to the land she’s spent her life on, and dedicates her work to building autonomy, justice, and community in the region. To this end, she’s taken on many different projects, like developing websites for environmental justice organizations, bottomlining political education and organizer training programs, and creating cooperative housing for organizers. When she’s not organizing, Mikayla enjoys hiking, biking, gaming, cooking, and deep conversations.

Idreese Foxworth

Idreese Foxworth (Pronouns: He/Him) is an  educator, writer, and  historian. He was raised in South Carolina where he spent most of his time either reading or exploring the woods. He organizes with the The United People Project and serves as its Director of Outreach & Development and Director of Educational Curriculum. Idreese also earned his Bachelor of Arts in History with a concentration in European and Latin American Studies from North Carolina Central University. He enjoys reading, gaming, hiking, talking, and cooking.  
 

Mariyah Jahangiri

Mariyah Jahangiri (Pronouns: She/Her) is a first-generation Pakistani community organizer who is on a life-long journey of working to create alternative, anti-capitalist models of collective healing, revolution, community organizing, political education, mutual aid networks, local radical policy and regenerative economies. She has been inspired by studying social movements and organizing in so many movement ecosystems and geographies – most recently in Cape Town, Iowa, Puerto Rico, Atlanta, and currently in Los Angeles. Outside of her free time when she enjoys looking at memes about Austin spectrum, dreaming bigger than the US non-profit industrial complex can allow for, and being a Libra/Libra/Capricorn, she is a Network Organizer with Climate Mobilization where she leads programming, coaching, and other resource development for a learning hub of 42+ local decarbonization and Just Transition campaigns. She is also working with the Asian Pacific Environmental Network to base-build in Wilmington and San Pedro alongside low-income API communities most impacted by extractive industries in Los Angeles. Mariyah is so excited to build friendships through Power Shift Network and practice radical joy and community with other young people of color passionate about climate justice movements. 

taliba obuya

Network Support Team Member

taliba obuya (Pronouns: Beloved/Beautiful) is a comrade, mother, daughter, sister, foot soldier and a dreamer for a new South. Raised by a single father and hailing from the 713, Beloved really cut her teeth in organizing post Hurricane Katrina. taliba practices Black radical tradition of grassroots organizing, centering lived experiences and using popular political education to raise consciousness, create collective vision and develop strategy. Beloved has built movements across the US South and global South at the intersections of race, gender, class, sexuality and the criminalization of Black & Brown, youth and other oppressed and marginalized communities. taliba has had the opportunity to support youth participation in United Nations hearings, build equity in the school systems in Brasil and advance human rights around education, reproductive justice, housing and rights restoration. Beloved is the Network Manager for the Sierra Student Coalition, finding a full circle path of organizing with young people at the fronts of climate justice, youth organizing & leadership development. taliba currently lives in the US South and in between conspiring and scheming; enjoys growing things in her gardens, reading autobiographies, teaching herself new languages, oh and singing loudly off-key!
 

Christian San Nicolas

Christian San Nicolas (Pronouns: He/Him) is an Indigenous CHamoru from the island of Guåhan(Guam), the southern most island within the Mariana Islands. He organizes with the Micronesia Climate Change Alliance doing on the ground work for Indigenous Rights, Energy Democracy, Food Sovereignty, and Cooperatives for his region. His goal as a grassroots organizer is seeking community-based solutions through the Just Transition Framework. Christian received his Bachelors in Business Administration with the University of Guam and is a flow artist whose hobbies include diving, hiking, and exploring.
 

Juliette Warren

Juliette Warren (Pronouns: She/They) is a second-year college student currently attending Appalachian State University. They were raised in Greensboro, NC. Juliette spent most of their childhood within various activist circles and social movements in North Carolina. She is currently an active member of the Appalachian Climate Action Collaborative. The mission of the Appalachian Climate Collaborative is to force Appalachian State University to create a more sustainable relationship between itself and both the local environment and community.
 

Yasmine Zmali-Meftah

Yasmine Zmali-Meftah (Pronouns: She/Her) is a high school student born and raised on the West side of Chicago, IL. She comes from a first-generation Algerian and Egyptian family. Yasmine is co-President and a founder of the Feud for Food, a youth and BIPOC led student organization dedicated to alleviating the effects of food deserts and food insecurity in Chicago’s West and South sides. The Feud for Food works with local community organizations, lawmakers, and leaders to help maintain and provide access to fresh produce.
