In this month's newsletter we're diving into co-op documentaries, revolutionary optimism, and staying safe and secure as activists.

PSN Team

>> The heavy storms in Knoxville on the night of July 20th left a beloved community space, Mutual Aid Space Knoxville (MASK), with flooding up to five feet high. This has resulted in a devastating degree of damage that they're all still trying to process. Much of their community work and programming are now postponed, as nearly everything has been destroyed and cannot be recovered. This fundraiser will help with replacing destroyed items, as well as supplies they will need (wheel barrow, shovels, gloves, dehumidifier, dumpster rental, etc) to clear out the space and clean up the damages.

>> EOR Mutual Aid which serves Wards 7+8 in DC, is running extremely low on funds. In less than three months they will run out of food, supplies, and money. Their immediate needs are donations, food, toiletries, and volunteers. 

Dissenters 

>> Yesterday, Dissenters co-presented a virtual tour of the ‘Remaking the Exceptional’ exhibit. They discussed the parallels between policing and incarceration in Chicago and the history of torture in the so-called “War on Terror” globally. For local Chicagoans - the exhibit will be available for public viewing in Chicago until August 7th at the DePaul Art Museum (935 W Fullerton Ave).

Worcester Youth Cooperatives   

>> Worcester Youth Cooperatives premiered their mini documentary, RADIX: Youth Build Solidarity and Worker-Ownership in a Post-Industrial City!! Shot in beautiful black & white with stunning cinematography, "Radix" showcases the emergence of Worcester Youth Co-ops, a youth-run organization on a mission to move in international solidarity towards a sustainable world by supporting the power of youth to organize cooperative solutions to social issues they care about. You can check it out on Youtube! 

Water Drop LA

>> Water Drop LA just turned 2! On July 24th their team completed Drop #104, or 104 weeks of distributions in Skid Row/DTLA. What started as a small act of community care in 2020 has grown into a powerful movement of solidarity with the local fight for clean water access. As always, sign up to volunteer with them or donate if you can.

>> A new film, Powerlands, directed by Ivey Camille Manybeads Tso, a young queer Navajo filmmaker, is available for use by members of Power Shift Network. Powerlands is about the connections between environmental justice struggles, and the filmmakers are making it available for activists to use as a resource to show those connections and get people excited about the many ways communities of color are resisting. They are offering the film for free or discount for Member Orgs to use to host their own screenings in their community. If you are interested in hosting your org's own screening of the film (you may sell tickets and use the funding for your org's needs), please email nathalie@powershift.org.
